November 8th-After more than seven years in business, the local motorcycle dealer and repair shop Moody Bikes in the 300 block of South Putam Street closed its doors last week. This may be the last time.

"I am very sad to announce that we will close immediately," said a post on the store's Facebook page last week. "After 71 years of helping drivers in this business, I have to do this, and I feel very heavy."

The closure took effect on November 1.

The same article mentioned supply chain issues and the inability to obtain motorcycle parts in a timely manner as part of the overall problem, as well as online purchases that seriously affect the "bottom line" of enterprises.

According to their website, local entrepreneur George Moody has fallen in love with motorcycles from a very young age and bought his first motorcycle when he was 16 years old.

The company’s online biography stated that after returning home from World War II, Moody’s started working on motorcycles outside his home, and his “professional ethics and enthusiasm” quickly spread throughout the community.

Customer demand and support reached its zenith in the opening of the Moody's cycle in March 1950.

The website states that Moody's subsequently retired in 1981, leaving the ownership of the store to his two sons, Dave and Jay.

According to the biography, the two ran Moody's Cycle until 2016 when they retired on their own.

The news of the store closure immediately caused sadness across social media, and many loyal customers left shock, encouragement and recall notes on Moody Cycle's Facebook page.

As of Saturday night, the Facebook post mentioning store closures had more than 160 shares and 60 comments.

One comment read: “Buy local ones whenever you have the opportunity” and cited the efforts of “mom-and-pop shops” across the country to make ends meet during the pandemic.

"A part of Kokomo's history, a part of our lives, will always be a part of my heart," read another part of the comment.

People involved in the Moody's Cycle declined to be interviewed by the Tribune and did not elaborate on the future of the building or its contents at this time.
