Bangor-Pumpkins in the Park is a fun Halloween-themed fundraising event for UCP in Maine. It will return for the 19th edition starting on October 22. According to the social service organization, it will include an extra day.

Maine UCP marketing and communications manager Andrew Lohman (Andrew Lohman) said that 2021 "Pumpkins in the Park" will be a virtual version, just like last year. Lohman cited the ongoing uncertainty associated with the pandemic as saying that the event will be conducted online, encouraging participants to share photos on social media pages every day, while flagging UCP in Maine.

"We ask people to use #PumpkinsInThePark and #UCPofMaine tags when posting photos related to events that happen every day," Lohman said.

This year's Park Pumpkin Festival will hold a 9-day event, and the celebration is scheduled to be held from October 22nd to October 30th. This year’s additional event will be the "Halloween Movie and TV Show Appreciation Day" scheduled for October 25th. This event is sponsored by Mainely Eyes.

Lohman said that Pumpkins in the Park participants were encouraged to think of their favorite Halloween movies and TV shows and posted pictures related to these movies and TV shows while tagging UCP in Maine.

Two scheduled events will last the entire week, including the "Halloween Scavenger Hunt" sponsored by Beale College, which is scheduled to start on October 22. Participants are encouraged to look for the clue sheet posted on the UCP social media page in Maine.

"People should look for commercial signs or landmarks with the image of a pumpkin with the UCP logo of Maine," Lohman said. "When you find a place related to the clue, you will find a pumpkin with our logo."

Another event planned to be held during "Pumpkin Park" is the "Halloween Trivia Table" contest, which is scheduled to start on October 23 and is sponsored by Barressi Financial Inc. Questions will be provided on the day, but the game will be played all week, according to Loman.

Other scheduled events include the October 24th "Halloween Candy Appreciation Day" sponsored by SJ Rollins Technologies. The "Halloween Coloring and Drawing Competition" is scheduled to be held on October 26, sponsored by the Machias Savings Bank. "Story Reading w/The Briar Patch" sponsored by The Shop Inc. is scheduled to take place on October 27th. The "Halloween Costume Contest" sponsored by Central Maine Wireless is scheduled to be held on October 28th. The competition has four categories-babies, children, adults and pets. The "Pumpkin Carving Contest" sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank is scheduled to be held on October 29th, and the "Halloween Decoration Contest" sponsored by Kids Peace is scheduled to be held on October 30th.

The awards in each category will be announced on UCP on Maine's social media pages. In addition to posting pictures and tags of Maine UCP on social media pages, Lohman also encouraged participants to also use Maine UCP's Facebook event page to host events for Pumpkin Park.

Pumpkins in the park are an important fundraiser for UCP in Maine. The organization traditionally relied on entrance fees when hosting events in person. In order to make up for the losses during the virtual version of Pumpkin Park last year and 2021, UCP in Maine called on local businesses and organizations to sponsor daily activities.

"Thanks to the personal event sponsorship from generous regional companies, we were able to keep the pumpkins in the park," Loman said, adding that the 20th year of the year will be an important one for UCP in Maine.

"We really want to do it ourselves again next year. We are planning to hold a very special event for the 20th "Pumpkin Park."

All event sponsorships will help Maine UCP support children and adults with physical and intellectual needs in the community.

UCP Maine provides family child and family treatment and outpatient treatment programs. UCP in Maine also provides four homes in Bangor and Brewer for adults diagnosed with developmental or intellectual disabilities. The organization also operates the Elizabeth Levinson Center, a 14-bed intermediate care facility that is open 24 hours a day, serving frail children and adults with severe cognitive and medical needs.
