CALHOUN COUNTY, MI -- A sighting of a suspicious motorcycle led police to find an auto theft operation Sunday, police said.

At about 10:05 a.m. June 19, a patrolling deputy from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office observed a suspicious motorcycle at a residence in the 22000 block of J Drive North in Marengo Township in eastern Calhoun County.

While speaking with a man in the driveway, the deputy spotted several other motorcycles and motorcycle parts on the property, police said.

Upon further investigation of the original suspicious motorcycle, the deputy discovered it had an altered vehicle identification number.

The deputy also found several motorcycle parts near the bike that were confirmed to have been stolen from the area, police said.

A search warrant was executed by deputies at the residence that afternoon, resulting in the seizure of multiple motorcycles with altered VINs, as well as stolen parts, police said.

A 39-year-old man from Albion has been identified as a suspect in these thefts, though he was not at the scene, police said. An investigation into this case is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office at 269-781-0880, or Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
